Form finding and pattern generation progress:

 

The youtube link for the Arper leaf chair – parametric seating assignment.

The curves were lofted to form a polysurface. When lofted in Rhino it generated several open polysurfaces instead of one single surface.

A single surface was generated by lofting the surfaces in grasshopper. Then iso-curve and pipe components were used to generate this iteration.

However it didnt work too well. Back to a framework of two 3 curves and definitions using line segment and pipe components.

The number of spokes or ribs, their thickness, number and orientation are varied using sliders. The height and width of the seating is varied along the z axis.

 

First the wireframe was constructed in Rhino approximately as per dimensions.

Then each of the curves was swept with a circular profile.

However the junction between the curves was generated clean. The swept profiles intersected each other.

This version was generated with the pipe tool.

Seating Assignment 1

The Arper leaf Chair is designed by  Lievore Altherr Molina. It was inspired by  the structure of a leaf and is the design interpretation of nature with a simple yet comfortable seat made from steel.

This is the base for my first assignment. The parameters that I intend to work with are

•  the thickness of the ribs and frame
•  the number of ribs or spokes
•  the height/dimensions of the seat
