CONCEPT – CHILDREN’S DOME

“Our design is a large-scale-installation, divided into two parts. The first part is indoors, mainly to create a play area for kids. The lower domes are mainly for children, they can easily enter and exit while adults need to lean over. The higher domes are for every guest. There are many openings in different sizes on the installation to ensure that the adult ’s sight is not blocked. Even if the parents do not enter and be with there kids, they can still see them to ensure safety. The second part is above the swimming pool, blocking the dazzling sunlight on the premise of ensuring the scenery of the swimming pool. Both parts of the installation are supported by rotating pillars, and the color of the dome is pink gradient blue from low to high. ”

“Our design is a large-scale indoor installation, mainly to create a play area for children, while ensuring that adults can see the children. This installation is suspended from the ceiling. The closer to the edge, the lower the height, and children can easily enter and exit. Adults need to lean down to get in. There are dome shape protrusions with different heights inside the installation, and children can play inside as often as they like. But if adults go in, they can only stand upright in certain place that the ceiling is high enough. The entire device has hollows of different sizes to ensure that the adult’s sight is not obstructed. Even if parents does not enter and play with the child inside, they still able to see their child from the hole, ensuring the safety.”

We changed the support method and divided the activity areas for adults and children. The dark-colored dome is taller, mainly for adults, and the light-colored dome is shorter, they are for children.

This installation can also be placed in a swimming pool. It can both block the sun, and create interesting shadow falling in the pool.

The Softness

Yang Pei / Yushi Zhao

Design Concept:

The concept of the vessel is the softness of fabric. Its twisted and distorted form is inspired from crumpled fabric and gives a feeling of softness although it is made from bronze.  

The hollow-cut shape is designed for inserting pens. The double layers can reinforce the support of those “standing” pens. The shapes of the two layers are slightly different, and different overlapping effects can be seen at different angles.

Design Goals:

Design a beautiful pen holder that can classify pens.

  • create a straight line in Z direction and a curve beside it
  • go to grasshopper / drag two “curve” under Params
  • named the first one as Profile and set the curve by selecting the curve in rhino / named the second one as Axis and set the curve by selecting the straight line in rhino
  • drag “revolution” under surface
  • connect profile to p / axis to a
  • drag one of the panels under lunchbox
  • connect “s” from revolution to “srf” from the panel from lunchbox
  • drag two “number slider” under param and connect them separately to “u” and “v” from the panel from lunchbox
  • double click the left side of the number slider, set the numeric domain
  • drag “custom preview” from “display”
  • connect “panels” from panel of lunchbox to “g” from preview
